Let’s start with this one from The Mirror’s Steve Stammers. He believes City are set to launch a £50-million move for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez.
The North London side are looking to hand the Chilean a new three-year deal to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future – but he is understood to want a significant wage increase and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Stammers writes. “Alexis Sanchez will spark a £50million battle between Manchester City and Juventus if he fails to agree a new deal at Arsenal.
“The Chile international has been in superb form for the Gunners this season and wants a substantial rise on his current £130,000-a week-deal.
“Sanchez, 27, will have one year left on his contract at the end of this season and Arsenal want him for another three years.
“Talks have been on-going since August and they know the next deal he signs will the most lucrative of his career and wants that reflected in his salary.
“The fact that no contract has yet been signed has alerted Juventus and City.
“Both clubs know that Arsenal will be certain to sell if Sanchez is left with just one year left on his current agreement at the end of this season.
“There would then be a danger that Sanchez would opt to see out his last season and leave on a free in 2018.”
Meanwhile, the Star’s Alex Wood says City are chasing AC Milan’s 17-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The goalkeeper, already a regular for the Serie A giants, is out of contract at the San Siro in 2018.
Chelsea, Real Madrid and Juventus are also thought to be keen on landing Donnarumma – but it is City who appear to be in pole position.
“Negotiations over a new deal are ongoing - but they’ve been dragging on and City look ready to pounce,” writes Wood.
And finally, Gary Cahill has praised City’s John Stones.
The pair played together in England’s 3-0 win over Scotland on Friday and the Chelsea centre-back believes Stones has what it takes to go on and be one of the best in the game.
“The potential is there for him to do whatever he wants to do,” he told the Star’s Steve Millar.
“He’s a great lad off the pitch and personality wise, you have to look at that as well.
“Is he a boy who is going to take on advice from people?
“Is he going to listen to everybody and soak that up? He certainly is.
“There’s no reason why he can’t go on and have the successful career he wants to have.
“He is a different type of player but I think everyone is aware of his ability.
“Along with that ability is the attitude to listen and take on board things from people who have done more than you.
“That’s how I progressed and I’m sure he will be the same.”
