시티는 필 포든의 골과 엘링 홀란드의 멀티골(2골)에 힘입어 엔조 마레스카 감독 체제에서 프리미어리그 7경기 7승을 달성했다.
이로써 마레스카 감독은 프리미어리그에서 감독 부임 후 가장 긴 연승으로 시즌을 시작한 기록을 세웠다.
하지만 승점 3점을 쉽게 얻은 것은 아니었다. 전반 포든의 선제골 이후 마에다 다이젠이 잠시 균형을 맞췄고, 경기 막판 지안 플레밍의 페널티킥으로 에티하드 스타디움은 조마조마한 결말을 맞았다.
그래도 프리미어리그 선두 시티는 승리를 거둘 자격이 충분했다. 포든의 영리한 원터치 마무리에 이어, 마테오 코바치치의 크로스를 받은 홀란드의 헤더가 전반을 앞선 채 마치게 했다.
