Toure heaps praise on impressive Sane

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has praised Leroy Sane after the German produced a fine performance against Tottenham on Saturday.

Sane, 21, has shown flashes of brilliance since his summer move from Schalke and scored his first goal for the club during a man-of-the-match display against Arsenal in December.

Injury halted his progress temporarily – but he returned to the starting lineup against Spurs and was in devastating form, scoring the opener and causing havoc with his pace and ability to beat defenders.

And Toure, who has established himself as a club legend during his six-and-a-half years at the Etihad, has been hugely impressed by Sane during his first few months at the club.

“Leroy Sane is a fantastic talent,” Toure said. “Today, for me, he was man of the match.

“Of course, we don’t get the three points - but I think today he was especially very, very good.

“Not only in this game but the Arsenal game as well. The games he’s been involved in, he always makes a difference.

“He’s very quick, sharp, and strong with both legs. I love this player.”

City dominated the game against Tottenham and, at 2-1 up, were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Raheem Sterling was pushed by Kyle Walker when through on goal.

Toure admits it’s a tough one to take but says he was proud of the team’s display.

“It’s difficult to accept the result,” he said. “What we have to do now is look forward and look at the next game and try to get three points as soon as we possibly can.

“We deserved the three points but we don’t have them and it’s quite harsh on us.

“I am pleased with my team and pleased as well to be involved.

“Today I played and we drew and for me it should totally have been three points but things like that happen.”
