City to face Barca, BMG and Celtic

City will face Barcelona in the Champions League and will also face a 'battle of Britain'.

Pep Guardiola will return to Barcelona after City were again paired with the Catalan side in the Champions League group stage.

The Blues have faced Barca four times in the past two years, losing each game.

In 2013/14, City met the Catalan giants in the Round of 16, losing 2-0 at the Etihad and 2-1 at the Camp Nou.

The Blues were again paired with Barcelona at the Round of 16 stage the following season, losing 2-1 at home and 1-0 in the return leg, This is the first time the teams have been paired together in the same group.

City will also face familiar opposition in the shape of Borussia Monchengladbach who were in the Blues’ qualifying group last season.

City beat the Bundesliga side 2-1 at Borussia-Park and 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on the way to progressing to the knockout stages.

The third opponents in a tough-looking Group C are Celtic - a team the Blues have never met competitively.

City old boys Kolo Toure, Dedryck Boyata and Scott Sinclair will be relishing the chance to face their former employers while Patrick Roberts is also on loan at Parkhead.

The Hoops also had to qualify for the group stage after having a nervy win over Israeli side Hapoel Beer Sheva 5-4 on aggregate.
