전반전 엔조 페르난데스와 라얀 셰르키의 득점은 선덜랜드 스트라이커 브라이언 브로베이에게 두 차례 동점골을 허용했고, 브로베이는 앙투안 세메뇨가 하프타임 전후로 두 골을 넣은 뒤 해트트릭을 완성했다.
승리는 종료 9분을 남기고 엘링 홀란드가 요슈코 그바르디올의 크로스를 골로 연결하며 확정됐다. 이로써 이 시티 스트라이커는 자신이 상대한 25개 프리미어리그 팀 모두를 상대로 득점하게 됐다.
이번 승리로 시티는 프리미어리그 선두 자리를 승점 3점 차로 지켰으며, 3주간의 국가대표 휴식기로 접어드는 가운데 유일하게 100% 승률을 기록 중인 팀이 됐다.
